Guest speaker Marlene Mawson, PhD, will present “The Origin and Expansion of Women’s Competitive Athletics in America.” Marlene Mawson is an emerita professor of physical education who was a faculty member at the University of Kansas from 1968 to 1990. Known as the “Mother of KU Women’s Athletics,” Marlene Mawson initiated athletics for women at KU in 1968 and voluntarily coached four of the six sports offered before the program was merged with KU Athletics in 1974. The “Exemplary Woman Athlete of the Year at KU,” named for her, has been awarded each year since 2008. The meeting will be at Centriq Training, 1740 W. 92nd St, KCMO.
