Talking with Kathrine Switzer almost 50 years after Boston

In case you don’t know the story: In 1967, Katherine Switzer became the first woman to officially run the Boston Marathon; she registered using her initial “K. Switzer” because women were not considered strong enough to do the marathon distance back then. When Race Director Jock Semple saw her on the course, he reportedly said “Get the hell out of my race” and tried to tear off her bib.  Kathrine’s coach and her boyfriend blocked him, and she became the first official woman finisher in the Boston Marathon. She remains a strong and vocal advocate for women’s running, and she compliments KC Express for doing so as well! Listen to her interview with KCUR’s Steve Krasky on 4/7/16 here.  (She mentions KCE about halfway through at 7:11.)
