10 Tips for Your First 10K

download

KCE’s BRAG team has been training hard all summer, despite the crazy humidity. Now it’s time for their first goal race – the Plaza 10K.  To spur them on, the BRAG coaches offer these tips for a great race day:

1. Get lots of sleep two nights before the race in case you have pre-race jitters the night before.

2. Hydrate well the day before.

3. Eat breakfast on race day. Carbs with some protein (but not much too fat) will usually do the trick.

4. Wear nothing new. Race day is not the time to discover that those cute shorts chafe.

5. Get over the gross-out factor and visit the porta-pots before the race. Once is good; twice is better.

6. Start out slow – and forgive yourself if you don’t make your goal.

7. Have fun!

8. Smile as you cross the finish line.

9. Hang your medal where everyone, especially you, can see it.

10. Register for another race ASAP. (The KC half with the BRAG team comes to mind!)

Are you running the Plaza 10K? Meet up with the ladies of KCE before the race for a group photo and to give the BRAGers a last-minute “yahoo!” Then head to the Classic Cup for a yummy breakfast with your girlfriends after the race. (In other words, hug your family at the finish line and send them on their way.)

Melissa Hart’s making the reservations, so please let her know by Thursday (9/10) if you’re coming for breakfast. You can get in touch through the KCE Facebook page.

Not running, but still wanna eat? No problem, just let Melissa know by Thursday. If you’ll be on the Plaza at race time, consider volunteering. Or, make a sign, bring a cow bell, and cheer on your KCE friends as they fly by.

On the fence? It’s not too late to register.

Hope to see you there!
