Frequently
Asked Questions

Is it safe to run or walk the In-Person MD5K?

Covid keeps us guessing, but we are optimistic that we will be able to host the MD5K safely on May 12, 2024 in Corporate Woods. We will follow any and all recommended state and local COVID safety measures.

How does the Virtual Md5K work?

You run or walk a 5K distance any day, time, and place you want. Some chose this option for safety reasons during covid, and some continue to prefer it for convenience or to celebrate the holiday with loved ones who are out-of-town. It’s all on the honor system; we don’t need your finish time. Virtual entrants get $5 off the entry fee. We’d love for you to share your selfies and stories on our FB page!

DO I HAVE TO BE A RUNNER TO PARTICIPATE?

No! Many of our participants are walkers, and many have never entered a race before. You just need to be able to complete the 3.1 miles comfortably. If you can walk for an hour, you’re probably covering the distance. If you’d enjoy a training program to help you prepare, check out the Living in Vitality (LIV) Training Team.

DO YOU ALLOW BABY JOGGERS/STROLLERS?

Yes, but for everyone’s safety they must start at the back of the race field and walk only during the event. Running or jogging while pushing a stroller is not allowed. There is no extra fee; you do not need to register a child riding in a stroller. Sorry, wagons are not allowed.

CAN I RUN WITH MY DOG?

Sorry, dogs are not allowed on the race course.

DO I NEED TO REGISTER MY DAUGHTER?

If your daughter will walk or run most of the race, she needs to be registered. If she’ll be riding in a stroller most or all of the time, you don’t need to register her.

CAN I REGISTER at Packet-Pick Up or THE DAY OF THE RACE?

Yes, you can register at Packet Pick-Up at Dick’s Sporting Goods, 119th & Nall, on Friday, May 12, 4-8 pm and Saturday, May 13, 10 am to 6 pm, or Sunday, May 14 at Corporate Woods, from 6-7 am. (We cannot guarantee t-shirts for race weekend entrants.)

Can I register by mail?

Yes. Print your mail-in entry form HERE. Be sure to mail it back by 4/30/23.

CAN I PICK UP A RACE PACKET FOR SOMEONE ELSE?

Yes, but please make sure they know you are picking it up for them, so they don’t come in themselves and find it missing.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I CAN’T ATTEND THE RACE? CAN I GIVE MY ENTRY TO SOMEONE ELSE, OR GET MY MONEY BACK?

Sorry, entries are non-refundable and non-transferable. No exceptions.

WHERE SHOULD I PARK?

Parking is plentiful. “Mother’s Day 5K Parking” signs with color arrows will help you find your way into the many open parking lots. You will NOT be able to enter the lots directly North or East of Building 40. View the Course/Parking map

WHAT TIME DO I NEED TO BE THERE BEFORE THE START OF THE RACE?

If you’ve already picked up your packet, plan to arrive by 7:15 am.  If you need to pick up your packet, arrive no later than 7:00, as race day pick-up closes at 7:30. Note: Overland Park Police will restrict traffic around the course beginning at 7:30 am.

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?

The MD5K takes place rain or shine. If there is dangerous weather, such as lightning directly overhead at start time, the Race Director may delay the start or may need to cancel the race for everyone’s safety. As is the policy at other races, no refunds are given for weather-related issues.

WHO BENEFITS FROM THIS EVENT?

You do! Because health and fitness are essential to your well-being, you are a beneficiary of this event. KC Express invests a portion of race fees in its ongoing programs to support women’s health. We also donate a portion of race fees to WIN for KC’s Camp WIN for Girls.
